American Fork Canyon is part of the Uinta National Forest and includes a variety of recreational sites and activities including rock climbing, camping, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, and motorcycle trail riding, etc. One of the best activities is the short hike to Timpanogos Cave.
My wife and friends started hiking up to Timpanogos Cave a few years ago, and went almost every day the canyon was open. Last year I got hooked and hiked to the cave about 50 times. It is absolutely the best short hike in Utah County.
The walk is a moderate to strenuous 1-1/2 mile paved trail, which rises 1,065 feet to an elevation of 6,730 feet above sea level. At a strong pace, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the top.
The hike to the cave is FREE.
